The Multidimensional Emotional Intelligence Assessment (MEIA) was designed to measure emotional intelligence (EI). Emotional intelligence allows individuals to perceive, understand, regulate, and express emotions. The MEIA consists of 150 items that assess 10 distinct facets of emotional intelligence. The MEIA can be used to understand human behavior and emotion, develop self-awareness, build critical people skills, assist with guidance and career counseling, and conduct research in a wide variety of settings.

-  Research on trait-based emotional intelligence

-  Counselors and qualified professionals looking to assist clients with understanding their trait emotional intelligence (EI)

-  Users seeking convenient online administration and a simple, brief, easy to interpret report

-  Psychologists seeking a brief, comprehensive, personality-based measure of EI

The Multidimensional Emotional Intelligence Assessment (MEIA) is a 150-item, self-report, trait-based measure of emotional intelligence (EI) based on Salovey and Mayer's (1990) multidimensional model of EI. The assessment includes 10 primary scales (listed below), and an Infrequency scale to detect non-purposeful responding.

  • Recognition of Emotion in the Self
  • Regulation of Emotion in the Self
  • Recognition of Emotion in Others
  • Regulation of Emotion in Others
  • Nonverbal Emotional Expression
  • Empathy
  • Intuition versus Reason
  • Creative Thinking
  • Mood Redirected Attention
  • Motivating Emotions

CONVENIENT. The MEIA can be administered in 20 minutes on SIGMA’s online platform – SigmaTesting.com. Reports are generated immediately. Results are presented using graphs, numbers, scale descriptions and sample items that are insightful and easy to understand.

SUPERIOR DEVELOPMENT. The MEIA was developed to overcome critical shortcomings found in many popular EI measures. Items were carefully developed, selected, and refined to minimize the influence of response bias that can significantly undermine the validity of test results. Unlike other popular measures, the MEIA was designed to reduce the effects of a) social desirability response bias (tendency to present oneself in a favorable light) and b) acquiescence response bias (tendency to positively endorse items even if not descriptive of the self).

RELIABLE AND VALID. The MEIA is a reliable and valid measure of EI. Experts have developed a comprehensive pool of EI items that accurately and thoroughly capture the intended meaning of the scales they measure.

NEW REPORT AVAILABLE NOW! The MEIA Basic Report is a vibrant, concise report. It contains a snapshot of scores for each of the 10 MEIA dimensions categorized according to three levels (Refine, Enhance, or Develop) along with its category descriptions. In addition, there is a summary table providing an overview of the MEIA dimension structure; descriptions of why each EI dimension is important to well-being and effectiveness; and descriptions of what each dimension may look like in the extreme (underutilization versus overutilization).
